Official statistics on the H-1B cap lottery conducted at the end of March 2022 as compared to calendar year 2021

For the lottery in March 2022, USCIS received 483,927 H-1B registrations and initially selected 127,600 registrations.
— Of the March 2022 registrations, there were over 48,000 different petitioners (US employers).
— Of the March 2022 registrations, around 30% of the H-1B cap registrations were for sponsored candidates with a US Master’s degree (or higher).
Last year, in calendar year 2021, these were the numbers -
In March 2021, there were 308,613 H-1B registrations.
— In the first lottery, in March 2021, USCIS selected 87,500 registrations initially;
— In the second lottery, in July 2021, USCIS selected an additional 27,717 registrations due to low filing volume from the initial selection.
— In the third lottery, in November 2021, USCIS selected an additional 16,753 registrations.Â
As a result of the 3 lotteries in calendar year 2021, there were 131,970 selected registrations.
